Emergency Care

Emergency Department at Pana Community Hospital

At Pana Community Hospital, our Emergency Department is committed to providing exceptional, around-the-clock care. Staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our team includes one physician and two registered nurses (RNs) who are certified in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP). Many of our RNs have also completed the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), ensuring they are well-prepared to handle a wide range of emergency situations.

Dedicated Support Staff

A dedicated registrar is on duty 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, to assist patients, their families, and other visitors, ensuring a smooth and efficient registration process. Our Cardiopulmonary and Diagnostic Imaging departments are also staffed around the clock, ready to provide immediate support in any emergency.

Specialized Emergency Care Programs

Prairie Heart Stat Heart Program

Pana Community Hospital is a proud member of the Prairie Heart Stat Heart program. This initiative focuses on the rapid identification, treatment, and transfer of patients suffering from acute heart attacks. Upon arrival at our Emergency Department, patients receive immediate stabilization before being transferred to a hospital in Springfield, where Prairie Heart Center cardiologists can perform life-saving procedures to open blocked arteries.

Acute Stroke Ready Hospital

In 2014, Pana Community Hospital earned the designation of an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital. This critical status allows local EMS responders to bring patients exhibiting stroke symptoms directly to our facility for initial treatment. Time is of the essence in stroke cases, and our team is equipped to make timely decisions, such as administering life-saving medication within the crucial 60-minute window to improve patient outcomes.

Telemedicine Neurological Exams

Since 2015, our hospital has been part of a telemedicine program that grants patients access to neurological exams by specialized neurologists. This advanced technology enhances our ability to provide comprehensive stroke care and other neurological assessments swiftly and efficiently.

Seamless Transition of Care

For patients requiring a higher level of care, our Emergency Department facilitates smooth transfers to appropriate facilities. Additionally, patients needing inpatient care can be admitted to Pana Community Hospital through our Hospitalist program, implemented in 2015, ensuring continuous and coordinated care.

Our Emergency Department is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to the Pana community and surrounding areas.
