Dr. Baqai was born in Chicago, Illinois, and spent much of his childhood and early education in Karachi, Pakistan. He earned his medical degree from DOW Medical College, one of Pakistan’s oldest and most prestigious medical institutions, before returning to the United States to continue his advanced training.

 

He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. He then pursued specialized fellowship training in Hematopathology at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan, followed by an Oncologic-Surgical Pathology fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in New York. During his training, Dr. Baqai was actively involved in teaching residents, medical students, and undergraduate students, and he presented multiple research papers at local and national conferences.

 

Dr. Baqai is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Hematopathology. He has particular expertise in hematopathology, including bone marrow evaluations, lymph node pathology, hemostasis, hemoglobin electrophoresis, and flow cytometry.

 

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Baqai serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He also holds the role of Medical Director of Hematology, Coagulation, and Flow Cytometry at Memorial Medical Center.

 

Outside of medicine, Dr. Baqai enjoys swimming, traveling, and spending quality time with his family.
