Faith in Action Partners with CIPT

August 24th, 2017

Faith-In-Action and Central Illinois Public Transit (CIPT) have taken action to partner together to better serve the transportation needs of the people of Pana and the surrounding communities.  Faith-In-Action is a not-for-profit organization and is now located in the new Quad County Home Health and Hospice building at

8 Huber St.  Faith-In-Action has been in operation for over 20 years and is supported by Pana Community Hospital.

Calls for rides through Faith-In-Action are now dispatched through the Quad County Home Health office.   Carol Chandler, FIA President stated “Transportation in rural Illinois continues to be one of the biggest barriers for people, specifically to doctor appointments.   95% of Faith-In-Action volunteer hours in the past several years have been devoted to transportation.  The need for Faith-In-Action to partner with CIPT is necessary to meet the demand and fulfill the transportation needs of people in our community. “

Central Illinois Public Transit serves Christian County as well as Clay, Fayette, Moultrie, Montgomery and Shelby Counties.  Rides through CIPT can be paid by cash, check, monthly pass, or a discounted ticket.  Medicaid may pay for transportation to and from a medical appointment.  Transportation hours for CIPT are Monday through Friday 6 AM to 6 PM.   They also provide a Mobility Manager to assist new riders in learning how the system operates.

CIPT has recently added trips from Pana to Springfield on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Nathan Nichols, CIPT Mobility Manager stated “The top requests for transportation through CIPT are for:  medical appointments, personal shopping, pleasure trips, and rides to work.   I want to emphasis that transportation services provided through CIPT are for all ages, not just solely for senior citizens.”  All of the CIPT vehicles are wheelchair accessible with Christian County having 5 vehicles available.
