History

Pana Community Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation established exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes to support and encourage health care services by providing financial and fundraising assistance for Pana Community Hospital. As the first chairman and each successor president of the Pana Community Hospital Board stepped down, a commitment to the hospital was still felt. Conferring with these people, a thought came to mind that some type of an endowment or foundation should be established to help not only with the immediate needs of Pana Community Hospital, but to also provide a plan for its future endeavors.

With this in mind, the Pana Community Hospital Foundation was formed. The Articles of Incorporation of the Foundation were issued by the Secretary of State of the State of Illinois on January 31, 1992 and were recorded in the Recorder’s Office of Christian County, Illinois on February 25, 1992. The original incorporators and members of the first Board of Directors of the Pana Community Hospital Foundation were John A. Metzger, Michael M. Trexler, G. Martin Dawson, Carol Chandler and Tom Phillips. Over the years, the Foundation Board has now grown and is composed of 12 – 15 members at any given time. In addition, a full-time Executive Director oversees the daily activities of the Foundation office and organizes various fundraising programs.

Positive growth and change for the Foundation have taken place since its charter in 1992. The Foundation receives many gifts, especially memorial donations. These memorials are a very generous and thoughtful way to remember deceased loved ones. Gifts are also given in the form of tributes to honor friends and family members on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, retirements, graduations or any of life’s milestones that should be commemorated. The Foundation also receives generous funds through Gifts-in-kind, pledges, stocks, property, bequests, life insurance proceeds and other planned gifts. Without the generous donations and the generous people of the community, the Foundation wouldn’t be able to fulfill its mission.

In addition to the daily gifts that are graciously received in the Foundation office, several fundraising events are held, sometimes annually to garner community involvement. These include the Charity Golf Outing, Christmas Memorial Angel Tree, Year-End Appeal and other special functions.

Our hospital is truly an asset to this community. The Pana Community Hospital Foundation is completely committed to continue its goal to assist and maintain Pana Community Hospital for the use of each and every one of us.
